Victor Agali Racines Academy U17 Scouting Tournament – Feb 13 – 19, 2021
AS Racines in conjunction with her Partner, Victor Agali Racines Academy organized an Under 17 grassroots scouting tournament at the Ibru College Sports ground in Agbarha Otor, Ughelli North from Feb 13 – 19, 2021. The tournament was sponsored by Mr. Emmanuel Ibru who is the financier of the partnership of Victor Agali Racines Academy as well as the President of AS Racines.
The tournament was organized to aid the development of grassroots football especially in the south south region and was originally billed to take place at the Ughelli Township Stadium in Delta State but efforts of the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) were truncated by officials of Delta State Sports Commission who were asking for an astronomical N250,000 (Two hundred and fifty thousand Naira only) per day for the use of the field. The Local organizing committee after having fully gone through all the necessary protocol for the use of the field had no choice but to go to another location (Ibru College) on February 16, 2021 to complete the tournament which successfully ended on February 19, 2021.
There were initially 12 participating teams with a late addition Agbarha Otor FC and each team paid participation fee of N10,000 each with the hope of carting away the N150,000 and N100,000 prizes for 1st and 2nd places.
Kelvin Shigana (a former invitee into the Nigeria U13 squad was taken by Victor Agali Racines Academy for further training and development. Kelvin is a promising and very talented player and posseses all the qualities required for a call up into the Nigeria National U17 team.
Mr. Gernot Rohr, Coach of the Nigerian Senior National Team (Super Eagles), was the Special guest of honour at the Semi Final and Final matches.
